        Slaves were managed on a reward/punishment basis based on the productivity of a plantation.during a bad harvest, slaves would have their rations cut as punishment. “Slave earnings” is an arbitrary number

        Some of them did. Some of them didn't. Depends on how large & successful the plantation was. Of course, if a slave was murdered, he kept "0%" of his earnings, so that "rolled up to the plantation owner." Douglass wrote about this extensively. Well worth reading everything...

        Pretty close to my tax rate... Of course it would be mean of me to add that “that’s because there are so few of us actually “tax positive” these days, that somebody has to foot the welfare bill”.
