The left extends disadvantaged people a helping hand. The right kicks them to the curb. Capitalism without any means of redistribution stagnates with all the wealth sequestered in the bank accounts of the few and collapse for the rest.

That defines the extremes very well. Sane moderates recognize that at low levels, the bug provides us with benefits and at high levels it becomes a malignant infection. Voters are the only antibiotic.

People who declare themselves "on the Right" will support any amount of government if the current president says the right things. It doesn't exclusively apply to the Right, of course, but as usual, your black/white assertions disprove your claim to philosopher.

Actually we have a right to defend ourselves. National defense is the only thing the federal government should be in charge of.

Having the right to defend yourself does not justify socialism. Apply that same argument to food or healthcare or anything else.

For clarity, I'm saying that the government owning and managing the military is socialism.

True but national defense is a requirement. If there is a way to do it without government tell me. There has to be a way to collectively defend each other from certain threats like nuclear weapons for example. The decision to not work is a personal choice generally speaking.
