I worked in the financial sector during the subprime mortgage crisis and I can say few things for certain about this incredibly complex, multi-caused, massive worldwide scandal. One thing I can say for certain, is that you are absolutely, 100% wrong.

A thread on the 2008 financial crisis. This ... might get long. It will, I hope, serve as a reasonably good primer for those unfamiliar. For those more familiar than I, feel free to jump in and expand where you think I have unnecessarily abridged. And please excuse typos.

Should have kept the "thread" in the one that already existed. This is normal.

The argument here is that to reduce a complex issue down to your pet scapegoat is very stupid. This isn't hard.

If person A says “Event X was caused by Factor Y,” and person B says “Event X was caused by multiple factors, none of which were Y” then person B is explaining why person A is wrong. Then the question becomes “Whose account more accurately reflects the historical record?”

Because it wasn’t. That’s like asking “Why didn’t racial IQ differences play a role in the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger?”

And the onus is on Molyneux to put forth a compelling argument for why it IS relevant, because he’s the one making that argument.

I mean, his “argument” (it’s just a claim, really) is that “banks were forced to make loans to unqualified minorities” but he provides exactly 0 evidence for that assertion. (The CRA doesn’t reference skin color, but rather neighborhood income levels.)

@welldrawndog spent more than a handful of tweets on this and didn't mention the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) at all. Wonder why? It was that one thing that led to all the financial instruments he laid out. The CRA was started to give depressed groups a hand out. #Narrative

He added a thread where he explains the actual causes. It's literally in the thread of the tweet you are mocking. Are you afraid of trying to refute his actual argument or unaware of it?
