In the 16th & early 17th century there were more white slaves in Africa than tuther way around. Schools no longer teach this. White Gold by Giles MIlton is the true story of one escaped slave , a lad from Devon. schools need 2 teach this.

Great book. I think the same book references the tonnes of correspondence we still have in museums (Probably hidden in the basements) where British rulers are pleading with North African rulers for the return of White slaves stolen from Europe.

Even back in the early days of French occupation in Canada the natives had slaves from conquered tribes it was the way of life and to this day countless countries still practice it
