Have women been choosing for thousands of years? Arranged marriages were common for much of history were they not? I think the divorce rate was much lower as well, especially in arranged marriages.

Women put up with husband's cheating back then. It was seen the husband "sowing his wild oats." Other commenters have pointed out, a dishonorable person doesn't let you know up front that they're dishonorable. It's not until you're married with kids. This happens to both genders.
