Actually she probably doesnt get well paid. Gets stuff but no cash. Is she paid enough to have a retirement fund, is 'company' she is working for paying SS, etc so she will have benefits, unemployment insurance. She gave her time as an investment. Men can also get alimony.

Because a husband might maliciously decide to abandon a wife to pursue another woman after having received the benefit of the first wife's support. Think of alimony as a disincentive to divorce. Similar to disincentives to poor labor practices.

While she is taking care of the house and kids, that is her career. She’s putting 18+ years in; she deserves the equivalent of a pension.
-
Uhhh... nobody gets a pension anymore. We get superannuation. Both parties make a contribution. And then we can only access it at 67. Make them wait till 67? Ok then.

$75k is lowballing it. But I guess it depends on how big your family is. The Truth About How Much a Mom Is Worthhttp://time.com/money/3849100/what-mom-is-worth/ …

Yeah. I doubt it. When I was single I did all of that, and held down a full time military job all for $83k a year. If all I had to do was keep a house clean and prep meals I’d be laughing.

I sincerely thank you for your service. Kudos to you on single parenting and working full time. Devoting your life to your husband, kids, raising of the family, household, isn’t something that should be looked down upon as a life path for women.

Lol. I’m a dude.

I get child support. They child has a right to support from the parents. But whatbright does a woman have to support? If we can force a man to pay her until she gets married again what stops a single woman from demending that a male support her?

Funny. I know MANY wives - including myself - who did NOT get "well-paid" at all. I took care of HIS house, gave up my career, AND paid most of the bills. Some men are selfish jerks, and that's why she leaves. The court, however, recognizes her contributions.
-
How did pay most of the bills without a job?

Even their anecdote doesn't make sense.

She made the free choice to stay home. She chose to risk things.

I think it depends on who initiates the divorce and/or who wants to stay married.
