Do the math A baby’s diaper needs changing every hour. A daycare worker with 5 babies spends most of her time changing diapers and spreading fecal matter from child to child. Not playing. Not cooing or holding or singing or modelling language. Who wants that job? Not the best.

Given the conditions of the work, empathy required, and huge responsibility. One could just as easily surmise that the people who want that job most definitely are the best for it.

To be fair, the smartest and wisest of people would realize that is an honorable and necessary thing to do; will embrace responsibility and accomplish the task.

The same reason why fathers would give it to someone else. With additional economic pressure requiring both parents away from child rearing.
