"Never wanted for anything" is also likely because expectations were more reasonable in the 1960's. Now people are crying "victim" when they can't have a 75" television and 2 gaming consoles.

Stefan , my Dad was a WWII vet. MANY Dads in our neighborhood were blue collar guys -- they ALL lived well & all wives/Moms stayed home. I agree that's the ideal, but again, our current economy simply will not support that same past -- and best -- sceanario.
-
It's also true, Stefan, that progressives have successfully brainwashed women and mothers that staying hom, raising kids and being a homemaker is somehow "much less" of a life than "pursuing a career." What a horrible and damaging lie we've embraced.

wtf? NOT the same now! Raising a family in the 60s-70s in the US on one middle-class income was far easier. MUCH nicer home, cars, vacations...mom didn't work. Minimal illegal immigration suppressing wages. 1/2 the population. Clean. I could go on and on how much better it was.

Whoever said the Middle Class is vanishing was correct. I look around & see 2-paycheck familes struggling to achieve even a 1960s-level lifestyle -- they have modest homes, old cars, very few "toys" or vacations. There are exceptions to everything, but many families are hurting.

If my husband and I would be blessed with a child I would without a doubt stay home. The energy I put in my job I will be able to put into my family and home

I have 4 kids and one on the way and I make less than 40,000 a year. My wife doesn't work and I wouldn't have it any other way. Tell that guy to grow a pair.

The divergence of wage growth from GDP & corporate profitability, beginning about 1974, is a well-documented fact. Anyone who thinks the opportunities for supporting a family on a single income that defined America's greatness are still available to this generation is a fool.pic.twitter.com/M96WVmneGl
