Speaking from experience, talking about it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be follow through. This doesn’t invalidate the message that kids belong in the home. What it says is, test your partner’s words against their actions for a good long time before you pop the question.

Relationships seldom turn out as expected, no matter how carefully planned. A big pinch of resilience is needed more often than we would wish.

In fairness, sometimes we just don't know until we have kids. Still, those who respond that way need to grow up and quick. Kids need their parents to be fully formed adults.
