200 years ago there was little to no "cost of living". We have these things called utility bills, taxes, gas & healthcare nowadays. Unless you're advocating we regress backwards 200 years to a time when if you wanted water you go dig a well, this is not an argument.

Absolutely, because “cost of living” in 1818 was more akin to figuring out how to avoid diphtheria, and hoping there was enough water in town for you to bathe and cook this week.

Go back even further to when almost every child was raised communally, and try and describe how we segregate our kids from communities. I wonder what the oldest method of child rearing would think about think about this

I can go back to my childhood where my siblings, cousins and myself were at my grandmother's during work hours and my grandmother gave us real care and earned money from her children for her efforts. I know all of my vast extended family, they are my closest friends.

There's a huge problem in America with just kicking out/leaving your extended family in the dust, I'll totally agree with that. It really should be whole families raising kids at the very least, not just one poor stay at home mom dealing with it all

It's hard to show off all the expensive things I got to my neighbours and raise a family at the same time

What? Go back 70 years in Poland. My grandmother has raised 7 kids, starting with very small piece of land, a goat and a wooden house with no electricity or running water. She was saying something similar about young mothers in the 90's

It's not 200 year ago. It was much more recent, and probably most of the world has much worse conditions.

You're so right about all of this. I haven't had kids yet myself because for a long time I was addicted to prescription opioids and knew I couldn't be a good father at the time. I'm sober now and I look forward to getting married and having kids more than anything else someday.

Backward projection is a fallacy argurment whether it’s the left pulling down statues or here. There are many arguments why you’re probably wrong here Stef. Epigenetics, IQ, life span, r/K, economic model, taxes, healthcare, monetary system, etc.

My children, just as I, socialised and were raised immersed in extended family. My cousins are my closest friends and so too my children and their cousins. My grandmother who had 11 children was the "daycare" for us all and was paid to give us genuine love and care.
