We did the same. Wanted Mom at home to raise the kids and we also chose to home school. It was a hard decision both for the money which was really tight and my wife who had a career as a gymnastics coach which she loved and was brilliant at.

Kids are like many other machines, you got to break them in gently, gas'em and run them ragged until they can mow the grass themselves. I guess I shoulda said boys and not kids. Clueless about them females, always have been.

Best advice I ever got as a new mom. If you don’t want crappy teenagers, you have to lay down the law when they are toddlers. I spent 6 solid weeks with my boys in “time-out.” (Reference to the book: “1, 2, 3 Magic”)

That was always my motto! The extra effort when they are young does pay off! I raised 5 very stable wonderful children. It's all worth it now. I used this motto even for the small things.

Totally agree! Better to pay now —you will pay much more later.

Tough call, but I know of a situation where the mother was the abuser and scared a child for life. The child fortunately had a father who loved him. In any case, the father also inadvertently did things that emotionally damaged the child. All we can do is try.
