IQ is a western notion. It has no meaning outside the Western context.

But it's been shown to be scientifically valid over and over again. That's like saying gravity has no meaning outside the west. You can deny it all you want but the effects are still there.

I am not against the test, it's a great way to predict professional and academic success in a Western society. However it has so little to do with human intelligence.https://twitter.com/Nidhal_Mg/status/1071347755249999872?s=19 …

Psychologists were obliged to oversimplify the definition of human intelligence to be able to measure it using tests such as iq.However these tests are very limited in content and context, and making them the standard for intelligence will make robots seem much smarter than you.

I've often heard this criticism. Always from groups who don't score very well. If there is a western bias, why would Asians score the best? I would agree that IQ is not the only determinant of success but it is an important one.

iq criticism can come also from neuroscientist, cognitive psychologists, and normal people with high iq. It's an open debate since it is based on the definition of intelligence, which is a very relative notion.

Success does not mean intelligence. It has a lot more to do with hard work and persistence.Statistics show that highly creative people are less efficient and less industrious, thus they score low on standardized tests like iq and sat...

Of course, if a person is less efficient and less industrious then they won't be successful. But doesn't that prove the point? If you waste your potential, how intelligent can you be?

Measures of success and measures of intelligence need to be different, a lot of highly intelligent people are not successful.

Definitely. It is one of the greatest predictors. It's not a guarantee. Even highly intelligent people can engage in self sabotage. I knew some extremely intelligent guys in college and then they started smoking pot on a regular basis. Lack of ambition and memory issues followed.

I think ultimately the question is why non- western, non-Asian countries have failed to establish stable societies. Why have all the advantages in every conceivable category come overwhelmingly from the west?
