Books are to the brain what a Bowflex is to the body - Exercise equipment. A genetically-superior brain will atrophy if not exercised. A genetically-inferior brain can be improved with exercise. So. . . go ahead and take pride in being smart. . . either way, you worked for it.

I don't accept that I am required to do more than others simply because I am capable of doing so. I don't mind "service", but I want to get paid for it just like everyone else.

Uh, what? Genetics might allow you to absorb information, but your genetics do not arbitrarily determine how intelligent, sensible or perceptive you are. SOME people are savants. Most are not.
-
Do you come out of the womb acutely aware of how to separate bad decisions from good ones? Do you immediately and intuitively know your limits or how to do stuff? Again, some people do. I should know; I met one of them.
-
I'd love to comment on it, but that thing has far too many terms and concepts I'm unfamiliar with to fill in the blanks. And, frankly, I don't feel like giving myself a Wikipedia crash-course on the subject.
