Are you willing to provide DNA?

Elizabeth Warren is apparently pretty good with that stuff.

Church records. My family is Scandinavian and you can even search the scanned copies of the records (helps if you speak the language) online. Also in those countries the gov't has digitized and databased much of the information.

Maybe some rocks are best left unturned.

Seriously, I for one have never cared that much about where (or who) I came from. Interesting? Maybe. I'm more interested in living life to the 'fullest' and being myself. I love all my fam I've known but I'm too much an individualist.

My nephew does it, and has made an amazing family tree, includes DNA profiles when possible. He has traced our family back to the 15th century.

Mormons are big on family history, I don't know if their research centers are open to the public, but they usually love to help people get started and I'm sure someone could refer a professional researcher. It's one of the things they're big on. They have online discussion forums
-
Yes, they are open to the public and free. A good place to start is: https://www.familysearch.org/
-
They own http://ancestry.com as well. Fun fact, they find dead relatives for the purpose of converting them to Mormonism and saving them in the afterlife.
-
Stefan you should do an interview on your show about this. When Matt says "dead relatives" what he means to say is "every person who ever lived" It's based on Malachi 4:5-6. Really fascinating big picture stuff.

That DNA test doesn't mean that those records are wrong, because people don't account for how recombinant DNA works. http://www.rootsandrecombinantdna.com/2015/03/native-american-dna-is-just-not-that.html?m=1 …pic.twitter.com/5o79a5KpwY

Exactly. Well said. I would def trust the records.

My dad spent many hours in the Mormon genealogy library when my parents lived in Salt Lake City. He found info there that he probably never would have otherwise.

By the way Stefan - utterly fantastic work and congratulations. Do you and/or Lauren have web sites with tip jars or some other way to receive the love from your many fans? ;-) All the best -
