Her characters symbolize ideas. Once you figure out how to sort them, they make much more sense. She’s framing ideas as characters to tell the story and make her points.
Funny how those looking to score cheap snob points by loftily saying that Ayn Rand writes ‘unrealistic’ characters never bag on Shakespeare by saying, “Dude, who yells in iambic pentameter in real life?”
