I would really love to debate you someday. Airline flights from Mexico to USA (over any wall) are common, as is true of the necessary visas. Flights from East Germany to Berlin, not so much.

Actually most of it was. The western half was surrounded by the Berlin Wall, which the Soviets / GDR built.

Useless? That wall kept East Germans in East Germany and difficult for Westeners to enter . Not that it was good, but it was effective.
