The phrase “believe survivors” is an intelligence test. If they are proven survivors, you don’t need to “believe” them. If they are posing as “survivors,” they are exploiting real victims. “Believing” does not tell you which is which. And it is essential to know.

The point of "believe survivors" is to consider that the survivor might be telling the truth. It isn't about never questioning their account of what happened to them. "Innocent until proven guilty" works both ways. Isn't the accuser "innocent until proven guilty" as well?

Liked your tweet until the second half. The accuser is only innocent until proven guilty of perjury if anything, because accusing someone of sexual assault is not a crime unless you are lying. Those rights are for the accused not the accuser.

In a court of law, yes. But when people talk about "believing survivors" they are talking about the court of public opinion. In my opinion, there is a widespread culture of immediately disbelieving the accusers rather than doing the due diligence of investigating the claim.

For average people I disagree, I usually believe it because I don’t see a motive for them to lie. For politicians celebrities etc I wait until I hear proof to just blindly believe accusations with no merit.

I also will have to agree to disagree. The University of the West of England did a study in 2006 of "no-crime" reporting when it came to sexual assault allegations.

The study, among other things, demonstrates instances where police officers in various departments were often extremely skeptical of ordinary women claiming assault.

The study shows that many police departments had extremely high amounts "no-crime" reports in which the officer, skeptical of a claim, would often rashly determine that the claim didn't need to be followed up on.

Sounds a bit like what people used to call “common sense “

The oxymoron of our time. Sense is anything but common these days, sadly.

Meanwhile I’m trying to drag people up to the next filter, so we can all avoid a lot of pain. Still working on it. I certainly have commentary, and perhaps art, but a solution remains elusive.

Solution only is compromise and respect the other side. Pushing ones will through without working woth the other side is a system where the ruling party rules no matter what. That is not democracy because it foes not take all citizens in consideration

Yes you can say all you want but people don't believe the holocaust happened even though proven survivors have told them what they know.
