Democracy dies when the alt-media all gets funded by the same people who own the mainstream. Or when people believe the 2 parties are different.
In the 19th century, soon after people got the vote, governments took over the "education" of kids. Can't have a say if you actually know how to think, right? Democracy dies in government classrooms.

I think the takeover of the education system took over with the creation of the Education Dept. and the introduction of "social studies." Now, schools no longer teach civics, history or geography, but they indoctrinate through social studies.
