        To be fair, my dad threw me in the pool to sink/swim at 2 1/2. I did learn to swim. My dad and I were never close, but I never held that particular thing against him.

        I don’t think that’s the case. Look at people in parts of South America on the amazon. Those children know how to swim before they can walk. Survival skills are survival skills.

        Hold up! How do think we Southern boys learned to swim? Dad and grandpa taught me the theory and then tossed my happy ass into the river down at the farm and said "swim, boy!" I learned how to swim pretty damn quick, and even got NAUI certified at age 13 down in Florida.

        No, they had their swim trunks on and would have saved me if they thought I was in trouble. I wasn't in trouble and took to it perfectly fine. Every child in the family learned that way for more than a hundred years, haven't lost one yet.
