To be fair, my dad threw me in the pool to sink/swim at 2 1/2. I did learn to swim. My dad and I were never close, but I never held that particular thing against him.

I don’t think that’s the case. Look at people in parts of South America on the amazon. Those children know how to swim before they can walk. Survival skills are survival skills.
-
The question isn’t whether it makes them good swimmers.

Thanks for clearing that up, chief, I thought they were getting a head start training for the olympics.

Hold up! How do think we Southern boys learned to swim? Dad and grandpa taught me the theory and then tossed my happy ass into the river down at the farm and said "swim, boy!" I learned how to swim pretty damn quick, and even got NAUI certified at age 13 down in Florida.

That’s not teaching, that sound like float by yourself or die

No, they had their swim trunks on and would have saved me if they thought I was in trouble. I wasn't in trouble and took to it perfectly fine. Every child in the family learned that way for more than a hundred years, haven't lost one yet.

Stefan, seriously... don't be like the Left. This isn't Spartan training. It's just a little self-reliance.

Or you could put your kids in swimming lessons like the rest of society does.
