Remember how the interstate highway system destroyed small towns? Well, the internet superhighway is destroying localities by them not being able to collect retail taxes. Also, it isn't very fair that a local business must pay tax but an internet business didn't have to.

Only one way this maybe consider good and is if all paycheck taxes go away. In other words US goes to an only flat tax and all IRS auditing and paper work is gone.

Also people will shop locally and not buy from local merchants who have the physical items on hand. They will go try it out then find a free shipping/no tax online vendor, screwing the local store.

It is simple, no more confusion on the issue. Previously the sales tax thing was kept in limbo in order to establish the Internet as a commercial entity. It is now established and the free ride is over.
