And here's Valve answering a question about Steam Spy. In short: they don't think it's accurate enough, so they'll create something better than Steam Spy on their own. Really looking forward to it, tbh.https://twitter.com/GamesCodeDogs/status/1012265304771252224 …
The reason I opened Steam Spy to everyone was to let smaller developers make informed decisions based on data and to remove some of the information asymmetry that is so pervasive in our industry. Naturally, I am excited by Valve's decision to offer a better version of Steam Spy.
Steam is not representative of the whole gaming market, but it has an amazing diversity of games that makes it very interesting as a source of information about trends and genres.
AppStore is my second favorite marketplace for data insights, but while it has a diverse audience (more so than Steam), it cannot compete on the diversity of the games.
But the most interesting (and lucrative) gaming audiences aren't very well served by Steam or even AppStore. That's why every now and then we see wildly successful games that wouldn't have a chance there, like Minecraft, World of Tanks, Fortnite, or Roblox.
Have to inform them that Brazilian is not a language lol
LOL, didn't notice that at first :)
while he is right, and there has been some works in unifying all the "standard" Portuguese under a single way to speak/write. Due to the sheer way languages evolve under cultural influence, I think it is safe to say that labeling it as "Brazilian" is acceptable.
eyoo, portuguese speaker and languages graduate here, the differences are minimal (accent, slang) and both continental and brazillian portuguese are completely understood to speakers of each other. they really aren't different languages.
I'm a noob when it comes to this, so do help me to see if what I think is right or not: The way that the brazilian online community interacts, with its unique usage of slang, and ways to express isn't enough to differentiate it from the other portuguese speaking ones?
As a Brazilian, I think it makes some cultural differences, there are some words in portuguese that sounds funny to portuguese Brazilian speakers, for exemple
I think they just meant 'locales' rather than 'languages'; BR and PT are usually localised separately (e.g. Disney dubs), aren't they? I think that's what's meant here. There's actually another example here: traditional vs simplified Chinese (same lang but diff writing systems)~pic.twitter.com/SKNpUfxkph
.@Steam_Spy When it comes to simplified Chinese, could you elaborate on this a bit. We attended your keynote at ECGC and you had some very interesting notes when it came to language of players vs language of players that just purchase PUBG.
yeah, at some point Steam Hardware Survey was displaying that almost 60% of Steam users were using Simplified Chinese. Ironically, it wasn't accurate at all, because those were machines in cybercafes.
"Brazilian"
@Sony @PlayStation @PlayStationUK You should take note of not being the Taste Police.
I don't think Japanese are such great PC players. More a console territory ?
This. The Japanese PC gaming market isn't strong at all. Nihon Falcom, the developer for Ys and Trails, was one of the last big hold outside for Japanese PC games. They went to 100% console in 2009 after sales were so bad they lost distribution rights for their boxed titles.
When JRPGs are released on PC, it's mostly for the benefit of fans outside of Japan.
> zero-effort You answered your own question there. There is a decent-sized community for doujin/fan-made games in Japan, but these are usually sold at events like Comiket and so forth. However, many of these games can also be pornographic, too.
There was a joke about finding Falcom's PC games in used game shops. PC game sections were usually split into two: Porn, and Falcom. lol
