    There are consequences for wrongfully detaining Americans. Even if Judge Lorena Carolina Cornielles Ruiz and prosecutor Ramon Antonio Torres Espinoza were doing Maduro's bidding, “following orders” is not an excuse.

    Today, the U.S. sanctioned two agents of the illegitimate Maduro regime that have usurped and misused power in Venezuela. The Citgo 6 were unjustly convicted and should be released immediately.

    1/2 I have great respect for and his family as they endure Paul’s continued detention. His story is a reminder to U.S. citizens planning travel in Russia to understand the risks of being subject to arbitrary enforcement of local laws.

    Today marks TWO YEARS has been behind bars in . He was tried in a secret court and convicted to 16 years though we saw no evidence. As he spends another holiday in a Russian prison, we continue to call on Russian authorities to let Paul go home.

    As a former US Marine, has continued to demonstrate remarkable resilience and strength. He makes his family and his govt proud but he should not have to spend 1 more day deprived of his freedom. I’m committed today and every day to bringing him home.

    Today, Baquer Namazi turns 84 years old. He has been unable to leave Iran since his wrongful detention over 4 years ago. His son, Siamak, and Morad Tahbaz, also American citizens, still suffer in Evin Prison. There should be no deals with Iran until these men are released.

    We unequivocally condemn the wrongful convictions of the Citgo 6 in Venezuela. There was no justice, no evidence, and no opportunity for defense. The use of a legal system to exert political power is yet another example of why free and fair elections are needed in Venezuela.
