I don't know about any study whether uncertainty is aversive to humans but Karl Friston's free energy principle is all about the reducing uncertainty https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_energy_principle …. If that is life's primary/only function, then not liking uncertainty might make sense as a motivator.

I certainly don't like the uncertainty of the situation where it is not certain (to a certain degree of certainty)

I'm sure there's also uncertainty people like: watching a sports game where you know the final score isn't much fun. For dislike of uncertainty, I'd look at the insurance industry. People choose ridiculously low deductibles and pay a lot for it.https://www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/app.2.4.177 …

I think we need to make distinction between situations with manipulatable odds and those where humans don’t see a threat of being gamed. People generally don’t like being manipulated or taken advantage of.

Another important concern is how uncertainty relates to decisions. There are billions of uncertainties that I don’t care about, because they don’t make any difference in my daily life (decisions). This VOI perspective on uncertainty is very choice-specific.

Acccording to Tversky and Kahnemann, people disproportionately weigh certainty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certainty_effect …
