We regret that our practices and training led to the reprehensible outcome at our Philadelphia store. We’re taking immediate action to learn from this and be better. A statement from ceo Kevin Johnson:https://sbux.co/2veMz8m

1. Fire the worker who called the police. 2. Pay those black men millions of dollars for what you’ve done to them. 3. Screw you.
-
I’d rather see the police be held accountable than the whole of Starbucks. Yes, the co should get rid of racist employees, no question. But the police arresting these guys? WTH?

IMO the police had the responsibility of stepping in & saying, we responded. Nothing illegal happening. Call us if something else happens. They did the opposite of de escalation. They give all my friends who are police a bad rep & endanger everyone.

True but I’ve had to call the police as a barista on a crazy homeless guy literally THROWING cups across the store. The police escorted him out and he DIDNT GET ARRESTED. This is a two fold problem. Both the police and the employees.

Very true. I’ve sat in a Starbucks myself and watched others sit for upwards of 10 hours. As long as you aren’t making it your bedroom or threatening others, there’s no policy that validates calling the police. Whoever called DEFINITELY needs to be fired.

I’ve seen people sleeping.

This is a BS apology. The only incident in your store was CAUSED by YOUR employees.

That is a skinny vanilla latte blonde and bland statement. It is worthless because it does not mention or apologize for the racist fundamentals of the incident.

That is not an apology. There was no "INCIDENT." Two men were sitting waiting for a friend. You've never called that an "incident" when I've done it. Nothing needed to be "handled" either. If this were my PR person's statement I'd fire them w/the store staff.

I know many people are addicted to the Starbucks drug (caffeine), but scale back and hit them in the financial pocket. The two young men need to financially compensated well by Starbucks. The person who called the cops needs to be fired. Police need de-escalation training.

We reached an agreement with these two men yesterday, which includes a financial settlement, collaboration on our long-term equity & diversity efforts, and participation in our College Achievement Plan. You can learn more at https://sbux.co/2HIPs7b .
