I’ve watched baby crows learning this skill. Some of them nearly flip over before figuring out braking. Also birds going through moulting have to compensate for missing surfaces. Cool study! Thanks for sharing!

Fascinating. I'd be curious to know to what extent birds rely on being very light to prevent the force they exert on the branch perpendicular to the angle at which they land from defeating these 1-2 ms adaptations. Or do they avoid that problem by braking just before they land?

I think they just break and inhale before they land... Inhaling makes you lighter
