Agreed but this really didn’t need a long article to explain a basic point: if you make one gender the standard, even if you state that the other matches it, you raise the question in the readers’ minds.

It’s rather like my Cambridge college writing to me before I went up to emphasise how much they welcomed girls. Having come from single sex female education where the issue had never arisen, I found such statements very strange and almost unnerving.
