The point is to ignore the most obvious conclusion of this data. Girls FAR outperform boys on english test regardless of socio-economic status. There is a chasm between the two relative to a narrow gap in math. Does that not seem alarming?

Did they control for family effects (i.e., richer kids more likely in stable, 2-parent families - the lack of which tend to affect boys more)?
