There's some value in having the power to simply not give a shit if they do or not, but I admit it requires either strong OPSEC, a fey willingness to lose a few things, or a close-knit social circle. Possibly all of them.

yeah, it seems like to a great extent the whole process is effectively a punishment for wanting or needing their approval. if it isn't obvious how to hurt you, there are lots of more fun, softer targets to be had
