Rejecting 1) seems to have rather obvious and rather obviously worse consequences. People hardly need training in 2); making it legible doesn't seem likely to make it more common.

There’s some room for a happy medium between (1) and some authoritarian Ethics class, but maybe expecting too much of fleets of instructors to all toe that line

I do think you can boost people’s ability to (2) and that that’s not good but may not make much difference at the margin in terms of how they act
