Well... I’d agree, except that with bright sunlight on her fur, my first cat’s usually black coat looked like a tabby coat of black and dark brown...

Someone had a cherished cat cloned: she was a calico, and the pattern on the clone’s coat was different. Apparently the genes control the type of coat but not precisely how the pattern manifests...

That's to be expected. The orange color gene lies on the X chromosome and the pattern is formed by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-inactivation … in heterozygous females.
