Giving violent criminals testosterone blockers rather than prison would be utterly despicable, an offense to humanity. It might be more humane than prison, though.

I suppose the researchers probably picked "1000 years" to get reporters interested. I was horrified thinking of our prison-happy politicians (and lets face it, citizens) ramping up cruelty for absolutely no redeeming outcome. But frankly we're already there.
