Drug Warriors have been trying to kickstart a new opioid crackdown for about three years now, so I wonder about cause of death data
-
yes there's cases where people OD on black-market fent that get blamed on "prescription opioids" so the deaths data is f'ed up
-
I specifically wonder if poly deaths that would have been attributed to benzos before are now pinned on opioids.

It looks like there's an effort to lump a lot of these deaths together. Fentanyl overdoses are being called heroin overdose
-
yes, reporting issues is a whole can of worms of its own (between "prescription opioids" and "heroin" and poly-drug
-
use (which is the huge majority of deaths)) so i'm extremely suspicious of drawing conclusions from those numbers
-
The only conclusion I can draw is that fentanyl is displacing heroin due to ease of supply. Another drug war victory.
-
Smaller volume of active ingredient means easier to get it past borders, then it gets diluted for end-users, ye.
-
...and because fentanyl active doses are *tiny*, if the dilution gets fucked up, well, people drop dead.
-
drug prohibition literally creates this crisis, it's not inherent to opioid use at all: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_law_of_prohibition …

I haven't been able to find any solid info on the number of fatal overdoses from the good old days of opium dens.
