Probably a lot of readers expect to see it broken out that way because they know lifespan differs by gender, but yeah, hard to read.

I wrote about the gender difference on LJ years ago and many people (including a biology professor!!) were shocked and suspicious.

I'm guessing men continue to die of misadventure while women no longer routinely die from childbirth?

Childbirth is definitely part of it, but there's a significant gap in mortality at all ages, not just young adulthood.
