What did Grace Hopper do? Why she....uh...HOORAY WOMEN HOORAY!!! What did some rando blogger do? ...BOO GAMERGATE BOO!! 5/
Both messages stripped of content and context; all that matters is Groups, Being, In Their Essence. But I'll tell you a secret. 6/
There are 1000s of Gamergaters. There are 100,000s of Women In Tech. And *you can find any story you want in a big enough group.* 7/
There are Women In Tech who are murderers. There are Gamergaters who spend all their free time volunteering in soup kitchens. 8/
You can invent any Narrative you like and support it forever with stories that aren't technically false. White Nationalists do this shit. 9/
Stormfront's full of stories of black monsters victimizing innocent whites. Because..the world's full of monsters victimizing innocents. 10/
The lie comes after the facts: 1) Choose stories with bad guys from groups you hate, and good guys from groups you love. 11/
2) Erase the subjects of the stories, like Polygon erased the blogger and Intuit erased Grace Hopper. Only Groups are real now. 12/
Marketers do this. Clickbait shitheaps like Polygon do this. Hate sites like Stormfront do this. *And it's the same God-damned thing.* 13/
Thus endeth the lesson. There's donuts in the break room. 14/14
lesson 2: how memes have become the new gospel.
