I freaking loathe Hillary and I'm still blown away by the audacity, and by the abjection of her cheerleaders. (Trump is also awful, FTR.)

(Justification of claim: ~5 million 18 year olds in the US. 5 million "reservists". Assume 1-year term.)

(Source for 5 million reservist claim: http://netloid.com/news/hillary-clintons-national-service-reserve-paid-time-off-to-5-million-volunteer?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter …, or just read Hillary's campaign page.)

I read the article, I see scholarships, but no mandatory anything. Not a fan of peace-corps style stuff, but where's the force?
-
It's a question of arithmetic. She wants 5 million in the reserve. There are ~5.2 million 18 year olds.
-
Assume 1-year service terms: then you need 5 million new recruits every year. But only 5 million new adults every year. So...
-
If terms are 2-year, then you need 2.5 million recruits a year. Which still means conscription.
-
IOW: 5 MILLION PEOPLE IS SHE FUCKING INSANE?

From website: "Provide reservists with the opportunity to earn special certification for 50, 100, and 250 hours of service per year"
-
Getting 5m 18-30y/os working 50hrs/wk --> 1/12 young people doing an hour or two volunteer work/wk. Mandatory conscription? uh...
-
It depends a lot on how long they expect people to stay in the program. Do it for one year then cancel it, that's one thing.
-
But if it's a long-term ongoing program, it runs up against arithmetic. If the avg. term is 1 year, need 5m new recruits/year.
-
If 2 years, need 2.5m new recruits/year. In the long run, you're only going to get 5-6m "new" adults per year, ie ppl turning 18.
-
Recruiting 5m out of ~100m 18-45 year olds in the US, once, is one thing. 5m (or 2.5m or even 1m) *every* year is something else.
-
As far as time commitment goes, that's a big question mark. Military reservists still have 5 months of training up front.
-
If it's just a weekend of training + email address, some kind of Hillary's Young Adventurers' Club, not sinister, but pointless.

people of various stripes have been fond of similar ideas. Wasn't William F. Buckley Jr. for a while? Not fond of it myself.
-
Yes, it's common among elderly fascists, so a big chunk of Washington.
