I look after a small group of feral cats. Of this year's litters, most have scattered. I found a home for Robert, the sweetest of the lot.

Socialization is the difference btw a feral and a domestic cat. That's environment: mostly exposure as a kitten.

Temperament--stuff we'd call personality traits in humans, like neuroticism, extraversion etc.--is mostly genetic.

Temperament affects how good a pet a cat will be, and whether you can get close enough to adopt it at all.
