@St_Rev Camden Benares: Possible, yes, although my impression from the Historia site is that he showed up after the Principia was written.
@St_Rev “Beat Zen” was a thing in the 1950s proto-counter-culture. Lots of people were “into it” but I don’t have much sense of what it was!
@Meaningness I think my dad was into Beat Zen, having served in the Pacific in WWII, and I read a lot of his books.
@St_Rev Yes! Several early Discordians were in the armed forces in Japan. An awful lot of American soldiers got Zen during the occupation.
@St_Rev I don’t know of a history, but bet it was a very deliberate move by Japanese religious nationalists to missionize American soldiers

@St_Rev a lot of stuff that seemed to be complete nonsense. Maybe it was the only available articulation of nebulosity at the time.
@Meaningness I read Hiyakawa's Language in Thought and Action, which is immeasurably more accessible.
@St_Rev Oh, that’s interesting. Hiyakawa has always been on the “ought to learn more” list.
@Meaningness he influenced a bunch of people who went on to be influential (like the Velvet Underground), eg SI Hiyakawa, R Heinlein.
