“Some find [me] overly reductionistic, but often provocative.” https://laeastsidermindful.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/mindfulness-2-0-the-next-wave-of-meditation-teachers/ … Suspect someone is using “reductionistic” wrongly?
@Meaningness Different people and societies have different moralities without being appreciable more or less deluded or dysfunctional.

@St_Rev that’s a fine definition for something, but not the only (or even typical) usage of “moral relativism,” i think -
@Meaningness Well, I'm for it, and can explain what "it" means. Can't speak for anyone else! -
@St_Rev The term is actually mostly used by Catholics to mean “ethical systems other than ours,” approximately. -
@St_Rev But then other people heard the term and invented various plausible (but vague) definitions and took positions for or against. -
@Meaningness Zhuangzi is "relativist", it has a coherent/sophisticated sense in that context as a descriptor, I happily embrace it myself. -
@Meaningness OTOH "reductionist" seems to be a pejorative for "analytical" -
@St_Rev Well, scientistical folks defend it as The One True Epistemology, even though it’s not well-defined and wouldn’t work if it were.

@St_Rev@Meaningness that is a definition, but it seems obviously false when put that way. Some societies are evidently more functional. -
@JaysonVirissimo@Meaningness By whose standards? (entire argument kicks up a meta level and repeats) -
@JaysonVirissimo@Meaningness There are two objective standards one can deploy at this point: tautological (system X approves of system X).. -
@JaysonVirissimo@Meaningness or existential (adherents to system X are not all dead). Refusal to universalize is a coherent response IMO. -
@JaysonVirissimo@Meaningness Well, that's 'moral relativism' right there. How do I know what fish enjoy? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hui_Shi#Relation_to_Zhuangzi …
