Finally someone trying to get rid of "you guys" https://www.hackerschool.com/blog/38-subtle-isms-at-hacker-school …

@St_Rev@drethelin It's not near-universal at all, the consequences are far from trivial, and nobody's demanding. -
@thomblake@drethelin "Hacker School's social rule is intended to target subtle behaviors – things that nearly everyone does." -
@St_Rev@drethelin Ah I thought you were responding to "you guys" which is from a relatively small linguistic community. -
@thomblake@drethelin As noted upthread I'm personally not fond of 'you guys' but that set of social rules seems far more harmful to me.

@St_Rev@drethelin weirdly my high school lesbian bestie freaking out about "you guys" was what first made me suspicious of PC -
@sarahdoingthing@drethelin Goes along with avoiding gendering myself online & some other practices. But this kind of policing sucks. -
@St_Rev@sarahdoingthing@drethelin It's not policing. It's a group of people saying "Hey, things kind of suck, let's all stop that." -
@thomblake@St_Rev@drethelin even people who don't think it sucks though? -
@sarahdoingthing It's a voluntary by-invitation group, so one presumes it doesn't matter.

@St_Rev TRIVIAL?! YOU MONSTER -
@drethelin I love the privileging of accusation, too. All criticisms are correct and must be ritually submitted to.
