@St_Rev Hey, I did my dissertation on a state-of-the-art custom workstation that had A WHOLE MEGABYTE!!! Which cost $75k.

@St_Rev An odd moment when I realized my phone had almost exactly 1000x the RAM and Hz of the $10m time-shared behemoth I used in 1978.

@Meaningness I could make amazing progress on my research on a modern system if a) I remembered any of it and b) I cared any more.

@St_Rev It’s hard to do math after 25—partly because your brain isn’t as sharp, but also because other things seem more important.

@Meaningness I was a good teacher and an OK researcher. It was the paperwork that drove me out of academia.
