The “bone spurs” jibe has a particularly interesting flavor to it, as that was Trump’s way of avoiding the draft. Is being forced at gun point to kill “patriotism?” Something to keep in mind when those who throw that reference around later bemoan the rise of “authoritarianism.”

This is really important. Some who serve under conscription may be heroes, but that's not why society calls them heroes. They're called heroes to obfuscate the truth that *everyone* who serves under conscription is a *victim*.
