On the proposal that statistics be taught in high school instead of trig: the way I would integrate stats into the curriculum in the ideal world is like this.

No it isn’t. Stats is easier than trig, algebra II, calc. Teachers already teach coding and already teach stats, so there is no hurdle with grading. Hardest part is finding actual teachers to do it em masse.

Part of the logic of this way of doing things is that if you graduated in any natural science, behavioral science, or social science within the last 15 years you actually have the skills the needed to teach this/integrate it into your curriculum.

Everybody is a “data scientist.” Biggest problem is probably lack of coding experience. But that isn’t really that hard to learn, and I suspect in another ten years all the graduates will have that down as well.
