I mean, think about malpractice insurance. In that line, insurance companies frequently fund the customer's legal defense. Is that nefarious?

If I believe the article, around 3/4 of insurance company referrals don't result in a prosecution. Some of those are people getting away with crimes. But that's a fuckload of referrals. I'm also uncomfortable with insurance companies paying prosecutors & cops, period.
