Many of the people whom I assumed years ago were ending their prospects in the field through sociopathic online behavior have shot up through the ranks of journalism. Any reason to believe this won’t happen in academia?

Based on the careers of some specific offenders, the current state of affairs seems to be that such actors are somewhat marginalized within their departments, but get enough outside support from foundations, thinktanks, media attention to stay relevant. In ten years...?
