OK, they just shoved the new interface at me. It's appalling. Current plan: I told Twitter to go back to newest tweets first. Some people say it's stayed that way for them, others say it quickly flips back to algorithmic. If Twitter switches me to algorithmic, I'm out.

The GoodTwitter extension seems to restore the old twitter, at least for the time being:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/goodtwitter/?src=search …
-
Yeah, currently I'm using a different addon to do the same thing (spoofing an older browser)

The page seems to abandon tweets previously display outside of a certain # of tweets above and below the central tweet on your screen. The only way you're going to pull off such a search is using targeted search criteria.

The new Twitter interface works a lot more like Tweetdeck's columns: they only show a certain # of tweets at a time, requiring constant querying of missing tweets between tweets.
-
Yeah I'm trying tweetdeck out right now but it seems super broken in a different set of ways
-
It's pathetic that 3rd party mobile Twitter apps can hold a lot more tweets in memory but a browser tab cannot. Then again, I see that 1 GB+ memory allocation for the single Tweetdeck tab...

Yeah, they are using React virtualized scrolling now. Turns out running all the JavaScript code for that is a lot slower than just drawing all the content anyhow, but hey
