This is true, but I was a shit calculus student and still intuitively understood Econ...in fact the Econ intuition back-propagated into the math. Probably a percentage at least that could make this leap

Nah. Concepts like "the cost to produce one additional unit" don't require any of the calculus machinery and are quite intuitive as is. You'll need calculus later when you start building non-trivial models, but that's not 101.
