My ~$25 sneakers are now ~$50 sneakers from another company. I still have some, but I think they were bad for me to wear all the time.
-
I think what I want most out of shoes are negatives: don't stink, & don't make my feet hurt. Shoes made totally from synthetics seem to stink quickly, which seems odd, but whatever.
-
stink = colonies of certain kinds of soil bacteria, treatment is a quick rinse with a dilute bleach solution followed by thorough rinse with water and careful drying, synthetics hold up to bleach a lot better FWIW
-
They do stand up to bleach better, but it usually seemed to have something to do with the soles. OTOH, the last set of synthetic shoes (well, hard-bottomed slippers) I ran through a washer came apart somewhat. I probably should have drip dried them, but who's got time for that?

I struggled to translate that into economics. Sounds like a complaint about how mass produced goods are unreasonably cheap, eg. cost disease of services, infrastructure.
