is there any reason to use glass over plastic dishes other than...seeming fancier? theyre heavier, have potential of breaking, and most damning of all make Literally The Worst Sound if you happen to graze them with a utensil (something they are ostensibly made to interact with)

hmm ive found cleaning grease off plastic to be much easier. hard to distinguish what parts of that are just how much easier to maneuver they are tho...

I've seen metal dishes with rubberized bottoms, which dampens noise, but the rubber part breaks down and is impossible to get truly clean.

i cant possibly imagine why someone would subject themselves to metal dishes. pots are one thing (silicone tools are common), but dishes?? unwieldy, clamorous, cant _microwave_ ???
-
I think they've been phased out by plastics but they were a lot more common in the early-mid 20th century

I have enameled metal plates. They’re awesome but for microwaving. I also have pewter. Fancier, but hard to keep (looking) clean. I have plastic too. They’re ok, but cleaning (& occasional melting) is a pain. Glass is useful if you keep kosher? I have up ceramic for kids.

this sounds like an actual nightmare to me

Everything should be eaten off sticks, as nature intended.

Glass is less likely to leach undesirable chemicals into your food.
