Two interesting threads here, to my eyes: - why does the author need to justify (confabulate around) his refusal to obey? - why do those who invoke "white fragility" insist on pathologizing simple refusal to acknowledge necessity of following a moral dictum?

1) I'd guess it's an attempt to resist an academic cult in academia's native language, which has obvious strategic value even if almost certainly futile. 2) Displacing moral questions into pseudo-medicalized pathology worked for the Communists, and works even better on SWPL.
