I'm at the stage of NIXONLAND where Rick Perlstein just clearly hates everybody in America in the late 60s/early 70s usually Perlstein reads like a guy with a liberal perspective who nonetheless likes and empathizes with conservatives, but at his point he just hates everybody

and to be fair, Perlstein does make a compelling case that in the late 60s and early 70s everybody in America just decided "hell with all this, I'm just gonna be an asshole"
